New Parking Rules

PARENTS:

The entire YMCA parking lot is off limits for Buccaneer parking.  We need to park in the main Anacapa parking lot (See image below).  The gate between the field and the YMCA parking lot will be locked before and after practice.  DO NO EXPECT to gain access through this gate for anything other than using the restroom.  The gate will be unlocked after practice begins and will be locked before practice ends.

*** NOTICE ***

We have had continued problems with players and their families jumping over the fence/gate.  We have also had adults cussing at and challenging our coaches and board members about this rule.  This will not be tolerated any further.

Effective Friday August 10, 2012:  If we witness a player or player family member jumping over the fence, the player will be suspended for 1 game per offense. The date of the suspension will be determined by the board of directors.

The use of this practice field is critical to the survival of our organization.  We need to respect the rules of the School and our neighbors at the YMCA.  Please make sure you park and/or drop off in the green areas below.  Thank you for your cooperation.

X Player option for all ages

In a recent vote by the chapter representatives of the Gold Coast Youth Football League, it was decided that the X Player option would be allowed for players of all ages.  The X Player option was originally adopted for players in the senior division.  This option was later extended to the youngest players in each division.

In the past, before the X Player option existed, a player over the maximum weight was only given two options.  They could either lose the weight before certification or they would be required to move up one or more divisions and play with much older kids.    The recent decision gives all heavier players the additional option of playing as an X player, allowing them to stay in the appropriate division with other players in their age bracket.

X Player Rule:  How X Player Works

After the official certification, any player that exceeds the official weight limit per age group, will be required to play as described below for all X players.  The rules are for Offense, Defense, and Special Teams.  All X players will be required to wear a 4 inch X contrasting the color of the helmet, on front and back side easily visible.

On Offense, no more than 3 X players may be on the field at the same time.

a. All X players must play tackle to tackle.  They must be interior lineman.

b. The X players must be set, but not necessarily in a three or four point stance, at the snap of the ball.  X players will not be allowed to pull, or have a blocking assignment that would cause their first blocking responsibility to be anyone outside the defensive tackles.

c. The furthest outside X player must be covered by a non X player.

d. No plays may be designed to have an X player carry the ball.

e. X player may advance a true fumble or tipped/batted pass.

On Defense, no more than 3 X players may be on the field at the same time.

a. X players must line up as interior lineman no wider than the outside shoulder of the offensive tackle.  This means the X players inside shoulder has to line up with the offensive tackles out side shoulder at the widest point prior to the snap.

b. The X player must be in a three or four point stance at the snap at the ball.

c. The X player must be on the line of scrimmage at the snap of the ball.

d. The X player may advance a fumble or interception as long as they are the original player with the ball. No laterals or hand offs to an X player are allowed.

No X players can play on Kickoff and Kickoff Return.  Punt and Punt return will be considered offense and defense accordingly and thus follow the rules mentioned above unless this caused the total players on the field to be less than 11 men.  The penalty for the misuse of an X player will be unsportsmanlike conduct.  The first certification will determine the player’s status for the year.  An X player for the regular season must remain an X player for the playoffs – regardless of weight.

X players will be placed at the front of the certification book.  An X will be placed across the registration form from corner to corner and initialed by the person certifying the book.  Prior to each game, X players will be reported to the referee by the head coach.  Books will be reviewed by request only by the opposing head coach.  The Senior Division Director will have a list of all X players prior to the first game.  Jersey number of such players will be reported to the Division Director prior to the first game.  Any changes in jersey number effecting X players must be reported to the Division Director 72 hours prior to the next game.

Any head coach found to do anything to have an X player participate in a fraudulent manner will forfeit all games the player has participated in whether or not the player played illegally. The head coach will be immediately removed as a coach in any capacity in the GCYFL. The GCYFL executive board will determine whether the team will be allowed to participate in the playoffs.

2011 Bucs Banquet

The 2011 Bucs Banquet has been set!  We will be holding our chapter wide banquet at Buena Lanes.  The event is scheduled for Saturday December 3, 2011 from 12:30 – 4:30 PM.  Additional details will be provided by your coach or team parent.

Congratulations Senior Bucs!

Congratulations to our Ventura Buccaneer Seniors for defeating a very tough Simi Valley team in this years GCYFL Superbowl.  The final score was Ventura Buccaneers 26 – Simi Valley Vikings – 24.

The victory marks the first Superbowl appearance and victory for our chapter in our short 3 year history.

The following was printed in the VCStar:
Highlights: Ventura Buccaneers — The chapter’s third season came to a ssucessful finish with coach Jim Duran’s team celebrating a championship Saturday night at Westlake High. This was the Buccaneers first appearance in the Super Bowl. The Buccaneers played before a strong fan support from Ventura. Duran and his staff coached well all season. “One of the things that makes his staff so unique is that he has a coaching staff with no kids on the team. These guys are out here for the love of football and for the mentoring of these young men. They also do it to serve in our community and to help make young men grow up to be responsible adults,” said Emily Wilmeth of the Bucs. The chapter recognizes the coaches, players, cheerleaders, parents and fans in contributing to one of the most memorable moments in Ventura Buccaneers Youth Football and Cheers history.

Gold Coast Youth Football Introduces “Smarter” Divisions

The Gold Coast Youth Football League has smartly developed new age and weight divisions to take effect with the 2010 season. The new structure further improves the safety environment for all players and provides the opportunity for more youth to participate in tackle football.

The GCYFL formed an Age/Weight Committee to engage in a thorough examination of player registration data from the past two seasons. The Committee analyzed factual data to determine trends in participation and division placement based on a player’s age & weight. The Committee identified specific areas where players were being underserved and/or were at a disadvantage due their placement in the former structure.

Based on their findings, the Committee presented options to the league that would effectively group players into more appropriate age/weight divisions to provide a safer and more equitable playing environment. The new division structure also creates a more balanced distribution of teams & players across all divisions.

The GCYFL will also introduce the “X” Player Rule for all divisions, providing opportunity for more players to participate in youth tackle football. The “X” Player Rule has been utilized effectively at the Senior (12-14) level since 2008.

For the coming season, the youngest players in each age group will now have the opportunity to participate regardless of their weight. Prior to this adjustment, these players would be unable to play football as no league made an allowance for younger, heavier players. With this allowance, the GCYFL hopes to attract the many disenfranchised players who were previously unable to participate in youth football.

Overall, the GCYFL remains committed to maximizing safety for its participants as well as providing an opportunity for more children to enjoy the game of football. As it enters its’ sixth season, the GCYFL continues to grow in number of players and teams which is a direct reflection of the open mindedness and forward thinking of its’ member Chapters and Board of Directors.

New Freshmen Rule in GCYFL

There is an exciting new rule that was recently passed in the Gold Coast Youth Football League.  Starting in the 2009 football season, ninth graders who meet the 185 pound weight limit and will still be age 14 as of 12/2/2009 will be allowed to play seniors in the GCYFL.  The ruling, which received a high level of support amongst the other chapters in the league, was voted in at the recent GCYFL board meeting on February 3rd.  If you have any questions regarding the new rule, please don’t hesitate to call.

The “X” Factor

On Tuesday February 26, 2008, the Gold Coast Youth Football League board of directors agreed to implement the exciting new “X” Player designation allowing a much broader segment to participate in youth football. The “X” Player rule, which is now in effect for the 2008 season, will allow senior division players who are over the max weight limits to now participate.

After league certification, senior players that exceed the league weight limits for their age group will be designated as an “X” player and will be subject to the rules set forth y the league. All seniors designated as an “X” Player will be required to wear a highly visible helmet sticker that is approved by the GCYFL. There will only be 3 “X” Players allowed on the field from each team at any given time. These players are REQUIRED to play as interior linemen only and are not to be ball carriers. In addition, is was voted that “X” Players will not be allowed to participate on Kickoff or Kickoff return teams. [Read more...]
